Department of Oenology

The primary role and task of the department is scientific-research work in the field of winemaking. The research staff at the Department of Oenology is part of the second cycle of studies of the study program – Oenology.

The applicative activity of the department is the most extensive; it involves conducting physical-chemical analyses and determining the quality of wine, alcoholic beverages and grape products, issuing appropriate documentation for putting into circulation or exporting outside the borders of our country. The quality control of wine and alcoholic beverages intended for export is a legal obligation, regulated by a number of laws and bylaws. The Department of Oenology has been authorized to perform its activities by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy since the early 1970s.

Within the Department of Oenology, there is a Laboratory for wine and spirit drinks, accredited by ISS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018. The department, along with the laboratory, have modern equipment with all the necessary facilities.

The publishing activity of the Department of Oenology is jointly undertaken together with the other departments.

As a result of their scientific-research work, the staff at the Department of Oenology have published numerous scientific and professional papers, published in domestic and foreign journals, journals with international editorial boards and impact factor, proceedings, etc. Over the last five years, the department has participated in several national projects, as well as in the organization of and giving talks at scientific conferences.
