On December 12, 2024, at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle forIndependence, an Honorary Academy was held in the presence of numerous guests to mark the jubilee of the UKIM Institute of Agriculture – Skopje. This event concluded a series of activities organized to celebrate the 80th anniversary of its founding.
The ceremony began with the national anthem, followed by performances of the academic community's anthem Gaudeamus igitur and the anthem of the University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius," performed by the Mixed Choir "Dragan Shuplevski" and the Symphony Orchestra of the Faculty of Music, under the baton of Prof. Sasho Tatarcheski.
The Monograph presents the history, development, scientific and research work of the Institute of Agriculture, a unit within the Ss. Cyril and Methodius" University in Skopje, as a segment of vital importance in the modern agricultural production in the Republic of Macedonia, and it represents a valuable source of biographical, bibliographical and historically significant data.
THE INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURE – SKOPJE is one of the oldest scientific organizations in the field of agriculture in the Republic of Macedonia.
Dating back to 1927, the Agrobotanic Department in Vardar Banovina – Kingdom of Yugoslavia was formed from the then district tree nursery in Skopje, and this year was outlined as the inception of the future Institute of Agriculture of the Republic of North Macedonia. In 1929, an "Experimental and Breeding Agricultural Station" was formed from the Agrobotanic Department.
During 1933, the "Agricultural Experimental and Breeding Station" was formed from the "Experimental and Breeding Agricultural Station" under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture.
During World War II (1941–1945) and the occupation of Macedonia, most of its territory was under Bulgarian rule, at which point the "Agricultural Experimental and Breeding Station" was renamed as the "Institute of Agriculture" (1941–1944).
After the liberation of Macedonia (during 1944/45) and Skopje (November 13, 1944) by Decision of the Presidium of ASNOM No.15 of 15 December 1944, the Agricultural Research Institute of the People’s Republic of Macedonia was established as a budgetary institution, which has persisted over the years under similar names up to this day. This date (15 December 1944) has been considered as official data on the beginning of the existence of the Institute of Agriculture as a scientific institution in the field of agriculture.
From its inception until the present day, the Institute of Agriculture – Skopje has passed a total of seven organizational structures. With its last one, the Institute of Agriculture – Skopje works within the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje as one of the organizational units of the University.
