„"Soil Health and Preventing Degradation" was the main focus of a training session held on 5 June 2026 in Demir Kapija, North Macedonia, organized by the Institute of Agriculture – Skopje, within the framework of the project ECOBASE.
The training brought together participants from various sectors, providing an opportunity to learn, exchange knowledge, and discuss key topics related to environmental protection and the sustainable management of soil resources.
The event was opened by representatives of the Municipality Demir Kapija, North Macedonia and the Director of the UKIM Institute of Agriculture. институт при Универзитетот „Св. Кирил и Методиј“ во Скопје.
In his presentation, Prof. d-r Duško Mukaetov presented the fundamental aspects of the project ECOBASE, from the Interreg IPA ADRION Programme, highlighting its goals, objectives, and expected impact.
Stakeholders from government institutions, the private sector, NGOs, agricultural producers, and academia gathered to explore the importance of soil health, the impacts of soil degradation, eco-friendly nature-based solutions, climate-smart viticulture and orchard production, and approaches aimed at preserving biodiversity while supporting a climate-resilient rural economy.
The training concluded with an engaging discussion, during which participants shared their views on the potential implementation, promotion, and adoption of these sustainable production practices in North Macedonia.
In addition to the theoretical component, the training included a practical session. Participants had the opportunity to observe firsthand the procedures for collecting soil samples in a vineyard, the implementation of specific viticultural practices, and other related vineyard management activities.
